Three years after their construction, a new track and a practice field at Grimsley High School in Greensboro, N.C., are unusable, and everyone is looking for someone to blame.
At issue are a cracked track and a leaning retaining wall.
“The taxpayers paid for a track and a practice field, and they got neither,” said Grimsley parent Andy Hudnell.
The track and field were paid for as part of a $412 million bond voters approved in May 2008, the News & Record reported.
The contractor, John Lomax, is an alum of the high school and has children who currently attend. “We don’t want anyone to sue us — much less where my kids go to school,” Lomax told the News & Record. “I’m a parent here.”
Lomax is offering to pay $200,000 of his personal funds for repairs.
