One of Oklahoma State University's oldest buildings is being torn down

Oklahoma State University is tearing down one of the oldest buildings on its Stillwater campus.

The O'Colly, a student-run newspaper, says Cordell Hall, adjacent to Boone Pickens Stadium, opened in 1939 as a residence hall. At the time, it was called the "largest college dormitory in the Southwest" and provided housing for 499 men, the university's website says.

The building was renovated in 1983 and repurposed as a multipurpose building with offices, classrooms, and labs.

Carrie Hulsey-Greene, Public Information Officer and Associate Director of Communications at the university, says that after the building is razed, the space will start being used as parking.

Cordell Hall was named for Harry Cordell, who served on the Oklahoma Board of Agriculture from 1926 to 1937.
