For its first 4 years, the campus will be used as swing space for elementary schools being rebuilt.

The Beaverton (Ore.) School District is beginning construction in Portland on what eventually will be a middle school.

KOIN-TV says the school being built on a 16.3-acre lot in the Timberland community will be completed in 2016, but will not be used as a middle school until 2020.

Instead, the district will use the facility as swing space for four elementary schools that will be rebuilt. For one year at a time, students and staff from Vose, William Walker, Hazeldale and the Arts & Communication Magnet Academy will be housed on the new campus.

When those projects are completed, the campus will become Beaverton's ninth middle school. It will have space for 1,100 students in grades six to eight.
