The Englewood (Colo.) School District has held a grand opening to celebrate completion of a new facility to house Colorado’s Finest High School of Choice -- an alternative program that offers students a flexible environment and emphasizes individualized attention.

The new space is three times larger than the site of the former school. It consists of about 88,700 square feet of the existing building, and a building addition of about 10,470 square feet.

The campus includes amenities and opportunities for students such as a multi-media classroom space, a new fitness/weight room with adjoining locker rooms, two newly renovated gyms, a cosmetology salon and classroom, and a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) lab.

The building was officially opened to the public last week, but students have been using the new space since January.

“We are very excited to give the students and staff at Colorado’s Finest High School of Choice the state-of-the-art facility that they deserve,” says superintendent, Brian Ewert. “We are thrilled to see all the learning that takes place with the new opportunities this 21st century space offers students.”

The total cost of the project was about $17 million. Nearly $8.5 million of that came from a BEST (Building Excellent Schools Today) grant that the district received from the state of Colorado.

The architect is Slaterpaull | Hord Coplan Macht.

The facility is pursuing LEED Gold certification for environmentally friendly design and construction.
