3 Jefferson County (Colo.) school board members ousted in recall vote

Nov. 5, 2015
Vote is seen as a rejection of the school board's conservative agenda.

Voters have ousted three members of the Jefferson County (Colo.) school board.

The Denver Post reports that in a recall vote Tuesday, Kevin Larsen, Richard Robbins and Craig Richardson were removed from the five-person board.

In board seats not subject to a recall vote, two new board members were elected. This means the district, the second largest in Colorado, will have an entirely new school board.

The recall vote was the culmination of ongoing dispute between a conservative board majority elected two years ago and many teachers, parents and students who opposed their philosophy and direction.

In neighboring Douglas County, three incumbents perceived to have a conservative agenda also lost their bids for re-election. Four conservatives who were elected to the board in 2013 remain on the board, so that faction still has majority control.
