$52 million bond proposal would upgrade security in Indianapolis schools

June 8, 2018
School board agrees to put request on the November ballot.

The Indianapolis school district will ask voters in November to approve a $52 million bond package that would pay for upgraded campus security.

WISH-TV reports that the school board has agreed to put the $52 million capital improvement request on the November ballot.

The proposed improvements include fire safety enhancements, classrooms doors that lock from the inside, better exterior lighting, and a one-button ability to get ahold of school district police and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in case of an emergency.

It's been a decade since the last bond referendum to support the school district.

For months, administrators have been working on the plan to improve school safety and building maintenance. Security has been on the minds of Indiana parents, especially since last month's shooting at a middle school in nearby Noblesville.
