Video: Florida Atlantic University drops naming rights deal with prison operator

April 2, 2013
Football stadium would have been named for GEO Group, but critics contended the company has a history of treating inmates and employees poorly.

Video from WPEC-TV: The football stadium at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton will not be named for GEO Group--the prison company says it is walking away from its $6 million donation. Student and civil rights groups opposed the choice of GEO, arguing that it was inappropriate for the university to attach its identity to the for-profit prison operator. GEO Group has faced allegations of poor treatment of inmates and employees at some of the prisons its operates.
