Student numbers continue to rise in Jefferson Parish (La.) district

Enrollment fell to about 32,000 after Hurricane Katrina, but now has surpassed 47,500

The Jefferson Parish (La.) district reports its enrollment for 2013-14 has increased by 3 percent. Nola.com says the district grew from 46,072 last year to 47,564 students this year. Parish schools have been slowly recovering from enrollment losses following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. After the storm damage, student numbers fell from about 49,000 to about 32,000.
