Student enrollment up slightly in Hawaii

Student numbers rise in 2013-14 by 1.1 percent

Hawaii's public schools have 185,273 students in 2013-14, an increase of 1.1 percent compared with last year's total of 183,251. KHON-TV says the figures represent all 255 Hawaii State Department of Education schools and 33 charter schools. Traditional schools enrolled 175,476 students--95 percent of the total--and charter schools have 9,797 students--5 percent of the total.
