Some Dallas parents want to create a new school district

A group of parents in the eastern part of Dallas is trying to build support for creating a new school district separate from the Dallas Independent School District. The Dallas Morning News says the parents want to create the White Rock school district, which presumably would include schools in the Lakewood and White Rock areas of Dallas. Establishing a new school district would require voter approval in both the new and remaining districts. Texas law states that a school district created within another one must have at least 8,000 students and cover at least nine square miles.
