Protesters object to DePaul University arena plans

A city of Chicago's proposal to help pay for a new basketball arena to be built in the city for DePaul University has drawn protests from people who say it would be inappropriate to allocate millions of dollars to the project at the same time the city is closing 50 public schools. The New York Times says opponents believe that a new arena in the city is unnecessary and the city should not be allocating funds for it. DePaul's main campus is in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, but since 1980, its basketball team has played its home games several miles northwest of the campus in Rosemont, Ill.
