President quits at Florida Atlantic University

Mary Jane Saunders concedes that recent controversies have been distracting.

After months of controversy, Florida Atlantic University President Mary Jane Saunders has resigned. The Miami Herald says that Saunders' letter of resignation conceded that “there is no doubt the recent controversies have been significant and distracting to all members of the University community.” Recent problems under Saunders’ tenure included a decision to name the football stadium after a private prison company that donated $6 million; the agreement was cancelled after student protests.
