Middle school campus in Chicago will be converted to military program

Oct. 30, 2013
The Marine Math and Science Academy will move to the building that now houses Ames Middle School

Despite protests from parents, the building housing Ames Middle School in Chicago will be taken over next year by a military school. The Chicago Tribune says the campus in the Logan Square neighborhood will become Marine Math and Science Academy, which now shares space with Phoenix Military Academy on the West Side. The move will enable Marine to add 750 additional seats to its program. Parents of Ames students have protested losing their neighborhood middle school, but Mayor Rahm Emanuel says more classroom space is needed to accommodate the demand for the district's military programs.
