Mass commemorates 55th anniversary of horrific school fire that killed 92

The deadly fire at Our Lady of Angels School in Chicago led to more stringent safety codes in school facilities.

Fifty-five years after a fire swept through Our Lady of the Angels School on Chicago's West Side and killed 92 students and three nuns, many with connections to the tragedy gathered to remember the the victims. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that about 150 people attended a mass Sunday to commemorate the anniversary. The fire occurred on Dec. 1, 1958, and the enormity of what happened led to more stringent fire safety codes for schools in Chicago and across the nation.
