Hearing officers oppose 14 proposed school closings in Chicago

May 7, 2013
Independent reviewers take issue with the rationale for closing some campuses.

Hearing officers appointed to review Chicago Public Schools’ plan to close underutilized schools are opposing 14 of the proposed school closures. The Chicago Sun-Times says the hearing officers gave a range of reasons for opposing the closures. In some cases, they noted that students would have to walk through dangerous neighborhoods in order to get to their new school. The district has proposed closing 54 schools and 61 school buildings at the end of the school year.
