Connecticut schools recognized for green efforts

Three early participants in the state of Connecticut's Green LEAF Schools program have been recognized for being nominated for the federal Green Ribbon School Award. The Connecticut Department of Public Health identifies the three schools: Mary Hooker in Hartford; and Barnard Environmental Studies Magnet School, and Common Ground High School, both and New Haven. The Green LEAF Schools program is a collaboration of the state's departments of Education, Energy and Environmental Protection, Public Health, and Construction Services, as well as more than 25 environmental and educational organizations. The program is focused on effective environmental and sustainability education for students, improved health and wellness of students and staff, and reduced environmental impact and cost of buildings.
