Chief of Northern Illinois University's police department has been fired

Donald Grady, the chief of police for Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, has been fired. The Chicago Sun-Times says Grady was put on paid leave Nov. 10 while the school reviewed the police department’s handling of a case in which Andrew Rifkin, then a police officer under Grady’s command, was charged with sexually assaulting a freshman at the school. The case against Rifkin was subsequently dismissed when a judge ruled that an officer withheld evidence that could have cleared Rifkin.
