Charter school opens in Jefferson Parish, La.

Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy will focus on health and hands-on learning.

Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy, a new charter school created by a grass-roots organization of business and community leaders, has opened in Kenner. La. The New Orleans Times-Picayune says the students living in Jefferson Parish are eligible to attend the school. About 420 students have enrolled; the school will start with grades pre-kindergarten through third, and grades five and six. Next year, it will add fourth and seventh grade and the year after, eighth.
