Austin (Texas) Board votes to create 3 single-sex schools

The Austin (Texas) school board has voted to launch three single-sex schools starting in 2014-15, The Austin American-Statesman says. Trustees voted 6 to 2 to move forward with an all-boys school that would have a design similar to the district’s Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders. Trustees also approved 5-3 a proposal to transform two East Austin schools, Pearce and Garcia middle schools, into single-gender schools. The proposal for Pearce and Garcia would make one school an all-boys school and the other an all-girls school,
