85-year-old university sculpture is restored

The Alma Mater sculpture is back at the University of Illinois after being removed in 2012 for a thorough cleaning and restoration, the Associated Press reported. The 10,000-pound bronze sculpture, which was created by Lorado Taft in 1929, was recently hoisted back onto its pedestal with a crane. The artwork has stood at the corner of Wright and Green streets on the Champaign, Ill. campus since 1962, where it serves as a popular backdrop for photos.
