The Niche website has issued a list of what it believes are the higher-education institutions that are most difficult for students to gain admission.

Which colleges and universities are the hardest to get into?

The web site Niche has analyzed U.S. Department of Education data for admission rates and SAT and ACT test scores and has come up with rankings for more than 1,300 higher-education institutions.

The California Institute of Technology, which has an admissions acceptance rate of 9 percent and students with high SAT and ACT scores, tops the 2017 Niche list as the hardest college to get into.

Here are the 10 institutions judged to be the most difficult for students to get into.
