Utah spent only 59 percent of the national average expenditure per pupil

Utah public schools spent $6,953 per pupil in 2015-16, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

That was the lowest per-pupil expenditure of any of the 50 states or the District of Columbia.

The expenditure amounts to 59 percent of the national average per-pupil spending of $11,762 and only 31 percent of the $22,366 per student that is spent in New York state.
