Statistics say that districts across the United States received more than $54 billion in federal revenue in fiscal 2014.

School districts in the United States received nearly $54.2 billion in federal revenue in fiscal 2014, according to data from the National Center for Education Statistics.

In "Revenues and Expenditures for Public Elementary and Secondary School Districts: School Year 2014–15," statistics that districts provided to the Department of Education show that federal revenue made up about 8.6 percent of the $628.6 billion of school district's total revenue in fiscal 2014.

The federal government provides funds to local districts for programs such as Title I, special education, child nutrition and vocational education.

School systems in California, the largest state, received the most federal money—more than $7.4 billion.
