Fastest-growing large districts of the 21st century

Of the public school systems with more than 40,000 students, these are the ones that have grown the fastest since 2000.

The most recent public school enrollment numbers from the National Center for Education Statistics show that there were 139 districts in 2013-14 with 40,000 or more students.

Many of those school systems would not have been on a comparable list from 2000-01, but steady growth since the turn of the century has catapulted them into the ranks of the nation's largest districts.

Here are the 10 school district with enrollments of more than 40,000 that have had the fastest rate of growth in the 2000s. Nine of the 10 had fewer than 40,000 students in 2000-01; the fastest-growing--Frisco, Texas--had only 7,234 students, but had grown more than sixfold by 2013.
