Pittsburgh board decides not to sell school building to charter group

Propel Charter Schools has leased the former Columbus Middle School since 2011

The Pittsburgh (Pa.) school board has decided not to sell the former Columbus Middle School to a charter school organization. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says the board voted 5 to 4 to reject the $915,000 sale of the school to Propel Charter Schools. The group has operated the Propel Northside charter school in the Columbus building since 2011. The school board did agree to sell the closed Morningside School for $275,000 to the Urban Redevelopment Authority.
