Paul Vallas chosen to run for Illinois Lieutenant Governor

Paul Vallas, the well-traveled school district administrator who has been waging a legal battle to remain in charge of the Bridgeport (Conn.) district, will run for lieutenant governor of Illinois on a ticket with incumbent Gov. Pat Quinn. Crain's Chicago Business reports that Vallas wil return to his home state, where he was a budget director in Chicago before being chosen to lead the Chicago school district. Despite his lack of experience in education administration, Vallas ran Chicago schools from 1995 to 2001 and went on to lead the Philadelphia school district and the Recovery School District in Louisiana. But his lack of education credentials has become an issue in his most recent job as superintendent in Bridgeport. A judge ruled earlier this year that Vallas does not have the required qualifications to lead a district in Connecticut. He has remained in the position while appealing that ruling, but earlier this week, WNPR.org reports, Bridgeport voters have elected a school board majority opposed to Vallas.
