Cuts will enable district to save sports, music, arts and physical education programs

The Cahokia (Ill.) School Board has voted to close two school buildings and eliminate high school students from its School of Choice so it can save its sports, music, art and physical education programs and some teaching jobs. The St. Louis Post-DIspatch says the Jerome Early Childhood Center and the Estelle Sauget Freshman Academy, which is attached to the board building, will be closed. The freshmen will be merged into the regular high school. In addition, high schools students will be eliminated from the School of Choice, now a K-12 school, and will move to the high school. The School of Choice will remain open for K-8 students.
