Harper and Elliott Colleges, each more than 160 years old, receive Green Globes

Two buildings at the University of South Carolina in Columbia have received Green Globes for their environmentally friendly renovations. The university says Harper and Elliott colleges, a residence hall and home of the South Carolina Honors College, underwent significant renovations during the summers of 2011 and 2012; the buildings’ structure and their mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were upgraded. Harper was built in 1848 and Elliott in 1837. The renovations emphasized use of recycled materials, added environmentally-friendly amenities and reduced energy and water consumption.
