School bus crash kills 2 students in Houston
Two students were killed and three people were injured Tuesday when a Houston school district bus crashed and went off an overpass onto the road below.
The Houston Independent School District reports that the bus was transporting students to Furr High School Tuesday morning when it was hit by another vehicle on Loop 610. The bus then left the freeway and crashed onto Telephone Road.
A 17-year-old junior at REACH Charter High School was pronounced dead at the scene. A 14-year-old freshman at Furr High School was transported to a local hospital, where she also was pronounced dead. Two injured students and the bus driver were taken to area hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Furr High School also is home to REACH Charter High, when it crashed.
KHOU-TV identified the victim who died at the scene as Mariya Johnson; the second victim was Janecia Chatman.
