2 sisters charged with stealing nearly $500,000 from school cafeterias in Connecticut

Aug. 15, 2018
The women worked at separate schools in New Canaan, Conn.

Two sisters who worked in the cafeterias of two New Canaan, Conn., schools are accused of stealing nearly half a million dollars over five years.

NBC Connecticut reports that Marie Wilson, 67, of Wilton, and Joanne Pascarelli, 61, of Stratford, were arrested over the weekend.

The investigation started in December when the New Canaan district filed a complaint about the handling of cash at the cafeterias at Saxe Middle and New Canaan High schools.

Investigators monitored both cafeterias, conducted around 20 interviews, examined financial records and ultimately identified the women as suspects.

Pascarelli worked at Saxe, and Wilson worked at New Canaan High. Police say the women stole $478,588 between 2012 and 2017.

The arrest warrant application for Wilson said the thefts may have been going on for up to 15 years. Investigators focused on only five years because of statutes of limitation.

Both sisters were charged with larceny in the first degree-defrauding a public community. The sisters have been released after each posted a $50,000 bond.
