New residence hall opens at University of Tennessee

Stokely Family Residence Hall is home to 684 students

The University of Tennessee has opened a new residence hall on its Knoxville campus.

WBIR-TV reports that the Stokely Family Residence Hall is the new home for 684 students who have been relocated from Reese Hall, a 50-year-old facility scheduled to close later this year.

The 370,000-square-foot Stokely Hall has a new dining facility, two “retail centers,” a convenience store and a Starbucks. The new facility will house a mixture of first- through fourth-year students.

The hall will consist of 49 percent student-athletes, and the rest will be from the general student body. The student-athletes are not scheduled to move in until fall.

Stokely Hall is the first at the university to feature “super suites”—a housing layout described as a “full apartment minus the kitchen.” The building has three- and four-bedroom models with shared bathrooms and living areas.

The new dining facility provides more healthful options to students, with more variety and an “upscale” feel, the university says.
