Many ribbons to cut in the Orange County (Fla.) District

Oct. 17, 2018
11 new and renovated school campuses have opened for 2018-19 in the Orange County (Fla.) district.

Most school districts in the United States have 10 or fewer campuses, and the construction or renovation of one of the campuses in those districts doesn't happen every year.

Then there are the few, the large, the steadily growing—districts like the Orange County (Fla.) Public Schools. In a school system with more than 200,000 students—a number that has more than doubled over 25 years—facility construction and renovation of schools in and around Orlando has been a constant, year in and year out, for district administrators.

For the 2018-19, Orange County has unveiled 11 major school construction projects—one new campus and 10 replacements or comprehensive renovations that cost a total of $260 million. Nine of the projects are elementary schools, and two are K-8 campuses.

"Each school features a single, secured entrance, separate bus and car loops, classroom and lab spaces, a media center with CCTV studio, an administration area, tot lot and youth lot playgrounds, a covered play area, green space and a cafeteria/multipurpose room,"  the district says. "The two K-8 schools include gyms and outdoor athletic amenities. All schools have the latest technology, including interactive touch-panel TVs."
