Frisco (Texas) district opens 4 new schools

Fast-growing Dallas-area district expects enrollment to surpass 60,000 students

The Frisco (Texas) district welcomed students to four new campuses when classes resumed this week.

The district says its new campuses bring the total number of schools to 72—10 high schools, 17 middle schools, 42 elementary schools and three special programs centers.

The opening of Memorial High School, Lawler Middle School, Liscano Elementary and Talley Elementary had been delayed one year to save operational costs. The additional classrooms will relieve crowding at nearby campuses.

“There is a lot of excitement in the air as teachers prepare their classrooms and plan for student learning,” says Superintendent Mike Waldrip. “I’m eager to see these new programs develop and grow as we continue to enhance student opportunity.”

Frisco also has opened its first-ever School of Choice, Bright Academy, which offers a unique style of teaching and learning to increase elementary students’ understanding of global issues, languages and cultures.

Although enrollment growth has slowed slightly since 2016, Frisco continues to add more new students per year than any other school district in Texas.

Enrollment has grown by more than 15,000 students in the last five years. In just the last year, Frisco added about 2,500 students and expects to enroll more than 60,000 students in 2018-19.

Now the fourth largest school district in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Frisco is projected to add between 1,400 and 2,100 students each year for the next five years.
