The Ascension Parish (La.) School Board has awarded a $14.8 million construction contract for the first of three primary schools the district is building.
The Baton Rouge Advocate says Stuart & Co. General Contractors has been chosen to build Bullion Primary School in the Prairieville area of the parish.
District officials say construction will begin this month with a goal of finishing the campus by the start of the 2019-20 school year.
"We're trying really hard to be ready for August of 2019," says Chad Lynch, director of planning and construction.
The architect for the Bullion project is Remson Haley Herpin Architects.
Ascension's other new campuses in the works—a middle school and two other new primary schools—are in the design phase.
Bid for the new middle school are expected to go out in October, and bidding for the two other primary schools is expected to be held early in 2019.
Funding to pay for the construction of all four new schools comes from a $120 million bond proposal that voters approved in April 2016.
