Thompson's Station Elementary and Middle School

3 schools to open in Williamson County, Tenn.

Aug. 8, 2018
1 middle school and 2 elementary schools will welcome students for the first time later this week.

The Williamson County (Tenn.) district is opening three new schools as classes resume this week.

The Nashville Tennessean reports that officials have held ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the campuses—Jordan Elementary in Brentwood, and Thompson's Station Elementary and Middle in Thompson's Station. Classes resume on Aug. 10

The three new schools reflect Williamson's burgeoning student head count, officials say.

"In 1990, when I came on the school board, we had less than 10,000 students," says Gary Anderson, Williamson County School Board Chair. "Now, we have 40,000 attending our schools."

The latest version of the district's capital plan could lead to 10 additional schools in the next five years.

Jordan Elementary will have about 400 students. It was named in honor George Jordan, a local African American slave who later became a war hero.

Thompson's Station Elementary will have about 620 students, and Thompson's Station Middle will have about 570.

The school features a common area with seating where middle and elementary school students will cross paths.
