Construction of Monmouth University's new athletic center and multipurpose activity facility is scheduled to begin in early 2002. The facility, located in West Long Branch, N.J., has been designed to cater to students' need for a place to enhance their quality of life while on campus and the need for improved facilities for varsity athletes.
Plans for the athletic facility are set for 150,000 square feet. The project is expected to be completed within 12 months from groundbreaking and to have a total project cost of $39 million.
Project highlights include:
A 130,000-square-foot renovation and 20,000-square-foot addition to the multipurpose athletic/recreation and entertainment center.
A 200-meter NCAA indoor competition track.
A 5,000-seat multipurpose gymnasium.
A new university bookstore.
Coaches' offices, locker rooms, luxury boxes, booster club and a hall of fame.
Architect for the project is Ewing Cole Cherry Brott (Philadelphia).
