Across the Nation: New campus student housing

Feb. 1, 2001
The California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC)

OAKLAND - The California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC) will begin construction this spring on a new student residence hall.

The project was developed in response to a need for affordable housing. Existing college housing accommodates 150 students - 60 on the Oakland campus and 90 in a new facility in the downtown YWCA. With campuses in Oakland and San Francisco, the school enrolls 1,200 full-time students.

Plans call for three stories of housing with 67 bedrooms accommodating 120 freshman students, six resident advisers and a staff supervisor. Parking for 38 cars will be provided on two stories below the residential levels, with one story of parking below street level.

Mark Horton/Architecture is architect for the project, which is scheduled for completion at the start of the fall semester, 2002.
