A number of school board members believe that the school district could benefit from having a lobbyist focused on its needs, particularly in regards to education bills.

The Sarasota (Fla.) School District is considering hiring a lobbyist to represent its interests in the Florida state legislature, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

A number of school board members believe that the school district could benefit from having a lobbyist focused on its needs, particularly in regards to education bills.

The district has contracted lobbying firms in the past to lobby on specific issues, but with major funding issues pending, such as the district’s need to update its technology, some feel that a dedicated lobbyist would better serve the needs of the school district.

If Sarasota were to hire its own lobbyist, it would join the ranks of several larger districts including Palm Beach, Pasco, and Hillsborough counties, which already employ lobbyists.
