New Hawaii middle school will seek silver LEED rating

Funds released to begin construction of 'Ewa Makai Middle School

Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle has released $66.9 million to construct the new ‘Ewa Makai Middle School, which will help alleviate crowding at nearby schools when it opens in 2010-2011. The project will incorporate sustainable design features and has been registered with the U.S. Green Building Council for LEED certification at the silver level. Construction is to begin this summer. The entire project cost is estimated at $82.6 million.
