Boulder middle school aims for LEED gold

Officials in Boulder, Colo., district want to make the $31 million Casey Middle School that the district is building to be a "green" showplace. The Boulder City Council has provided $1.8 million to the district so Casey can try for the gold standard of Leadership in Engineering and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Among the green elements being considered are a green roof, extensive daylighting, and ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and water use. After demolition, the intent is to recycle as much of the old building material as possible.
