University of Iowa will get $84 million in FEMA funds to replace flooded buildings

Oct. 25, 2012
Allocation had been in doubt since report called for repairing instead of replacing the facilities

From The Des Moines Register: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has decided that it will allocate $84 million in federal funding to the University of Iowa to help replace buildings damaged in a 2008 flood. Acquiring the federal funding was in doubt after an Office of Inspector General audit from the department argued the Federal Emergency Management Agency should not pay to replace the Hancher-Voxman-Clapp complex and Art Building East because they instead could be repaired. FEMA officials in August announced that they were siding with the university on the funding issue.
