South Carolina high school student shot to death in altercation with resource officer

From The Myrtle Beach Sun-News: A 16-year-old male student was fatally shot Friday after an altercation with a resource officer at Carolina Forest High School in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Trevor Varinecz, an 11th-grade student. Horry County School District officials say the student was armed with a knife and got in a ''tussle'' with the resource officer. The student was shot during the altercation and the officer was stabbed. The officer was treated for his injuries and released from an area hospital.

UPDATE: The resource officer, Marcus Rhodes, has been placed on medical leave.
