New Utah district picks superintendent

State education official hired to lead district formed from the split of the Jordan school system
Utah's newest school district has chosen its first superintendent. The board of the new east-side school district formed by the split of the Jordan School District selected David Doty, who now serves as assistant commissioner and director of policy studies for the Utah System of Higher Education. Doty will spend the next year working with the new board to plan for the official opening of the district in July 2009. Residents on the east side of the current Jordan School District voted last year to form a separate district. It includes Sandy, Cottonwood Heights, Midvale, Draper, Alta and portions of unincorporated Salt Lake County. It expects to have more than 30,000 students and more than 40 schools.To read The Salt Lake Tribune article, click here.
