Montgomery County (Md.) district will increase the number of portables next year

Growing district will have about 550 portable classrooms in 2012-13

From The Gazette: The Montgomery County (Md.) school system will have a net increase of about 40 to 50 portable classrooms next year, to about 550 total. This year, the district has about 496 portables in use; about 8,000 students attend class in 350 portables, and the rest are used for other programs or work space. In 2005-06, Montgomery County was using 719 portables.The district has been trying to reduce the use of portable classrooms, but enrollment growth in recent years has forced administrators to rely more heavily on portables.
