Ithaca College today announced that it will expand the school’s Wi-Fi availability to reach its entire campus, which spans close to 700 acres.
The college has selected Apogee to deploy Wi-Fi to parts of the campus that do not currently have service, including 29 academic and administrative buildings.
With the new deployment, Ithaca College will be able to deliver reliable wireless coverage throughout its 670 acres; including high-density areas such as lecture halls, auditoriums and dining facilities. Full roaming support and higher bandwidth will also ensure that students and faculty enjoy uninterrupted Internet access as they move about the campus or connect multiple devices at one time.
"To achieve our vision of fostering learning in a student-centered community, Ithaca College is committed to delivering a wireless network befitting a modern campus with speed and efficiency," said Gerald Hector, Vice President for Finance and Administration.
Dramatic increases in usage and the number of Wi-Fi enabled devices brought to campus by faculty and staff are creating new demands outside the school’s existing network, known as ResNet. In the past, students, faculty and staff have voiced concerns to school administrators about spotty connectivity and dropped connections in academic and administrative areas.
