Hurricane-damaged schools won't be ready in January

High school and elementary school in St. John the Baptist Parish, La., were severely flooded in Hurricane Isaac

From The New Orleans Times-Picayune: It may be a full school year before students from East St. John High School and Lake Pontchartrain Elementary School can return to their campuses in the St. John the Baptist Parish (La.) district. School officials had hoped to have the two campuses, which were flooded during Hurricane Isaac, ready for students by January. But to do the work that quickly, the district would have to absorb the additional costs of a shortened timeline.

September 2011... From Nola.com: After missing 19 days because of flooding from Hurricane Isaac, 1,400 students from East St. John High School in Reserve, La., have resumed their classes at a temporary site. The school sat in about a foot of floodwater that took several days to recede. Officials in the St. John the Baptist Parish District had hoped that the campus could be repaired to open in January, but after learning that the floodwater infiltrated the electrical system, acknowledged that the repairs would take longer. Some board members have suggested that the district consider building a replacement high school in a different location. For now, the displaced students are attending classes on the site of the former Leon Godchaux campus.
