Rockford (Ill.) board approves dismissal of all non-tenured teachers

March 24, 2010
Principals will decide whether to rehire any of the affected employees
From The Rockford Register-Star: A projected 573 teachers, administrators and support staff in the Rockford (Ill.) School District could be without jobs or in different jobs next school year. The School Board has approved the dismissal of all nontenured teachers--those in their fourth year or less with the district--and nine principals. The principals will be reassigned or demoted to teacher status. The number of employees rehired depends on principals, who will be responsible for hiring their own leadership teams. Laid-off teachers can reapply for their jobs.
