Akron plans to close 5 schools

2 middle and 3 elementary schools will shut down at the end of the school year
Akron (Ohio) Public Schools will close three elementary and two middle schools at the end of this school year. The district will shutter Erie Island, Lincoln and Stewart elementary schools, as well as Riedinger and Goodrich middle schools. Many of the schools were projected to close as part of the Akron schools' 15-year, $800 million remodeling and rebuilding project. But a projected $37 million budget deficit in the 2010-2011 school year has pushed the closures faster. To read The Cleveland Plain Dealer article, click here.
