Money was sought from a candidate seeking to fill vacancy in the St. Landry Parish (La.) district

From The Lafayette Daily Advertiser: Two school board members in the St. Landry Parish (La.) district have been indicted for allegedly trying to sell their votes on who would be appointed school superintendent. John Miller, 71, and Quincy Richard, 50, face two counts of bribery and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery. Prosecutors say the two sought money from Acting Superintendent Joseph Cassimere in exchange for their votes to give him the job permanently. Cassimere notified the FBI, which arranged to have Cassimere agree to pay $5,000 each to Miller and Richard. Miller and Richard allegedly had been conspiring to sell their votes since July, prosecutors say. Cassimere has been acting superintendent since March and is one of five candidates for the permanent job. The School Board has indefinitely postponed a vote on an appointment.
