Freshman charged with murder in Grambling State University shooting deaths

Oct. 27, 2017
Student from St. Louis is charged with killing 2 men on the campus earlier this week.

A freshman at Grambling State University in Grambling, La., has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting deaths on campus this week of two men.

ABC News reports that Jaylin M.Wayne, 19, of St. Louis was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the killings of Earl Andrews, 23, and Monquiarious Caldwell, 23.

Andrews was a senior at Grambling State; Caldwell was not a student.

A news release from the Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office says the shooting deaths were "result of a disagreement that led to a fight between one of the victims, Earl Andrews, and the suspect.

At some point during the fight, the suspect produced a firearm and shot Andrews and Caldwell. Caldwell appears to have been coming to the aide of Andrews when he was shot."

Police say they believe the quarrel began in a residence hall room; the shooting occurred in a courtyard outside the hall.

Grambling State University President Rick Gallot said in a statement Thursday night, "Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the Andrews and the Caldwell families during this difficult time."
